Time goes by really fast. Sometimes it is hard to keep up. There are so many things I want to do and so many places I want to go. I have decided to start this blog in order to share my interests and hopefully learn about new things from the people that read this.
I have a wide range of interests. Lately, I have spent a lot of time traveling in Mexico. There are so many things I like about the country. It is fantastic. It has an interesting history, vibrant culture, stunning scenery, and beautiful women. In the past few years, I have been building up my Spanish language skills. I think it is important to speak multiple languages. The ability will enable me to communicate with more people and access new opportunities that would have otherwise been closed to me.
Other than that, I enjoy swimming, hiking, watching baseball, playing pool, taking photographs, and observing politics. My professional interests include paralegalism, insurance, research, writing, history, and politics.
I will use this blog to talk about my hobbies and my progress with regards to my professional goals. I sometimes find it difficult to decide exactly which path I should take. My intention is to write honestly about my failures and successes. I believe that this type of introspection will allow me to better understand what I should be doing with my life and where I should focus my attention.
Here is where I am now and I got here: Originally, I am from North Carolina. My family was of modest means. My father is a tile contractor and my mother works in a church daycare. We always went to church every Sunday when I was young. When I was a teenager my family situation started to deteriorate. I moved around from town to town around North Carolina and I lived in a variety of settings. My life was pretty unstable for the second half of my childhood. I switch schools about every six months. However, that didn't stop me from obtaining excellent grades. I did very well in school and was able to graduate early from high school. After graduation, I moved out on my own using the savings I gathered while working at Taco Bell in high school. My first job after that was with my uncle's tile company. I worked there for two and a half years and took some courses at night at a local community college.
When I was almost twenty one I decided to head out west. I traveled all over the southern United States and I hit a few Mexican border towns. This experience opened my eyes to all of the different things I could do with my life. After traveling for a while I settled down in Tucson, Arizona. There I studied at a community college and took some certificate courses from the University of Arizona. I also worked a bunch of different seasonal and temporary jobs. I did these jobs for the experiences I would have. I knew they wouldn't be career opportunities. I worked on a conservation crew, at a baseball stadium, for a telemarketing firm, and at a seafood processing plant.
When the economy was spiraling downward in 2008, I decided that I needed to get a full-time job that would be long-term. I knew it would be important to find a job that couldn't be outsourced and that would survive the Great Recession. Somehow, I found myself in Dodge City, KS. I am working at a beef processing plant. I operate a saw that cuts meat. It is a very boring job. It does pay my bills though. There is usually money left over to do something fun or take a trip. However, it isn't the kind of job that I want to do forever. It is just a job. It isn't a career.
In a few days, I will be twenty six. At this point in my life I expected to be in a different position. I figured that I would have already finished college and that I would already have a real career. Well, sometimes things don't work out exactly as we expect them too. Luckily, I am still young enough to pursue me ambitions and achieve my goals.
I hope that you will find my posts entertaining and interesting. I will try to update this blog frequently.
